Montreal Urban Planning Students Explore Detroit

Show Me Detroit Tours was pleased to show Detroit to 22 urban planning students from the University of Quebec at Montreal. They are spending a week in Detroit while studying the Corktown neighborhood in depth. This is the first time their professor, Sylvain Lefebvre, has brought a group of students to Detroit.

There is a very interesting web site that talks about Corktown’s mid-century history. It tells the story of bookstore co-owner Ethel Claes and her fight to stop 1950’s urban renewal projects that changed Corktown forever.
